Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 7 December 2012 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra image release was issued on Dec 6 describing NGC 922, a system at a distance of 157 million light years which was formed by the collision between two galaxies. This system was observed with Chandra in order to learn about the formation of stellar-mass black holes and understand the dependence on galaxy metallicity. Interestingly, the observation results disagree with standard theoretical predictions that the black hole formation rate should decrease with higher metallicity. A real-time procedure was executed on Dec 5 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer.
