Operations CXO Status Report

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra press release was issued on Jul 16 describing a new technique for measuring the mass of the super-massive black hole at the center of the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 4649. The new X-ray technique confirms that the super-massive black hole in NGC 4649 is one of the largest in the local universe with a mass about 3.4 billion times that of the Sun, about a thousand times bigger than the black hole at the center of our galaxy. The targets recommended for acceptance from the Cycle-10 Peer Review were posted on schedule on July 11. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/target_lists/cycle10/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of Sgr A* coordinated with the VLT.
