Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 20 September 2002 8.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was completed on Sept 16 to update the on-board ephemeris. Of note last week was the release to operations of OFLS 9.4. The ground system software update provides additional control over star catalog commanding when generating command loads.

Two press releases were issued last week. The first on Sept 13 reports the discovery of 6 times the expected number of galactic-scale black holes in an observation of a galaxy cluster. The second on Sept 19 was issued as a NASA HQ Space Science Update and describes a remarkable series of images of the Crab nebula combined to make a 'movie'. The sequence shows bright wisps emanating from the inner ring around the pulsar. For detail see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/02_releases/press_091302.html. http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/02_releases/press_091902.html.

The observing schedule for next week is shown below and includes an observation of 4U 1746-37 coordinated with RXTE.
