| During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Of note last week was the approval of a change to the EPHIN thermal model to ensure more accurate predictions during mission planning. This follows several cases where the measured temperature exceeded the predictions for certain attitudes, e.g., 115 deg F cf 110 deg F. The change will place additional constraints on mission planning flexibility however will minimize the probability of exceeding the EPHIN temperature limit (120 deg F). A composite Chandra image release was issued on March 1 of a series of 5-hour exposures of Jupiter taken in preparation for the New Horizons flyby en route to Pluto on Feb 28. The purpose of the Chandra observations is to study the powerful X-ray auroras observed near the poles of Jupiter.
