Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 1 December 2006 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was run on 27 November to lower the ACA CCD temperature from -15 to -16 deg C to mitigate the increasing number of warm pixels. The ACA CCD will be lowered in a series of five 1 deg steps to -20 deg C to allow for data assessment.

A Chandra image release was issued on 29 November of N49, the brightest supernova remnant in optical light in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The composite image combines Chandra data with infrared data from Spitzer to show both the million degree gas in the center and the cooler gas in the outer parts of the remnant. Contrary to expectations, much of the infrared emission is generated in heated gas rather than from dust emission. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2006/n49/

The schedule of targets for next week is shown below and includes an observation of M-31 coordinated with HST.
